Professor Fleming is a civil engineer specialising in environmental issues. He has over 50 years’ experience in a wide range of technical areas, including hydrology, hydrogeology, coastal process and dredging, waste and resource management, landfill design and contaminated land.
He is also experienced in environmental due diligence for assessing risks for investors in major projects. He graduated from Royal Technical College, Glasgow, and Stanford University, California. He is also an Emeritus Professor of the University of Strathclyde and the founder, and Chairman, of Envirocentre Limited.
Simon Shillington CEng MICE
Simon is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 27 years of experience in construction and design consultancy across the water, property, infrastructure and power sectors. He is Technical Director at Fairhurst, where he leads the firm’s Water Services Team of 23 specialists providing design and advisory services in water engineering and the water environment, working across major transport, renewables, water industry and development infrastructure projects. Prior to joining Fairhurst, he was Engineering and Hydrology Lead at Arcus Consultancy Services where he was heavily involved in EIA, design and the procurement of major renewables projects. During construction phase work on major wind and grid projects he supported the firm’s ECoWs.
Simon is a past Vice Chairman of Institution of Civil Engineers Glasgow and West of Scotland Branch and was a chair or their Graduates and Students section and a member of their Education and Training Sub-Committee. He is an ICE Career Appraisal Assessor, and a Mentor with the MCR programme.
